The Hurt Locker Sweeps Oscars
The 82nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday night, was as amazing as the glitz and glamour of Hollywood with dazzling stars and not to forget the wonderful Oscar award and the hosts for the event -Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
Amidst much speculation as to who will take home the most number of Oscars, there was one movie that beat all odds to become the big winner for the night: and that movie was “The Hurt Locker” which took away six awards.
Another much anticipated award was the Best Actress award. There was tough competition between Meryl Streep (”Julie & Julia”), Gabourey Sidibe (”Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”), Carey Mulligan (”An Education”), Helen Mirren in “The Last Station”, but it was finally Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for her role in “The Blindside.”

Incidentally, Sandra Bullock also won a Razzie award for her performance in “All About Steve.”
Kathryn Bigelow went down in history as the first woman to win the Best Director award and her film “The Hurt Locker” won the Best Picture Award.

US Apple iPad Launch Slightly Delayed to April 3,The much-anticipated iPad tablet computer from Apple Inc. will start hitting U.S. store shelves on April 3, slightly later than originally planned. When Apple unveiled the touch-screen device Jan. 27, the company said the first iPads would reach the market in “late March” worldwide, not just in the U.S. Now international releases are planned for later in April.
Investors shrugged off the delay and instead seemed reassured that the tablet wouldn’t slip even later. On a day with a broader stock market rally, Apple shares jumped $7.44, or 3.5percent, to $218.15in midday trading, a record high.
The company did not specify Friday why the tablet is not coming out until April, and Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison would not elaborate.
However, Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek had said this week that Apple might have to delay or limit the size of the launch because of an “unspecified production problem.” Misek said Apple’s Taiwan-based supplier, Hon Hai Precision, could be facing a production bottleneck or a shortage of components.
Misek said Friday he couldn’t elaborate on the production problem. He said Apple was taking “a very intelligent approach” by allocating more units to the U.S., Apple’s biggest market, while delaying overseas availability for the iPad.
The analyst doesn’t expect the delay to affect sales of the iPad during Apple’s fiscal third quarter, which ends in June. He estimates Apple will sell 550,000iPads during the period and 1.2million in fiscal 2010. For fiscal 2011, he expects Apple to sell 3.5 million iPads.
In comparison, Apple sold 8.7 million iPhones in its last quarter alone. The iPad isn’t expected to be even close for a while because Apple will have to persuade mainstream consumers to embrace a new category – a device smaller than a laptop but larger than a phone.
Michael Gartenberg, analyst and partner at Altimeter Group, expects the tablet to “resonate well” partly because people already familiar with the iPhone will know what to expect from the iPad.
“Apple has invested not just 10 years of research and development but 10years of consumer education too,” he said.

The Skype Symbian apps is now downloadable for free from the Ovi Store. This is a different from the Skype for Verizonoffering which does not operate over Wi-Fi.

Apple Sues HTC for iPhone Patent Infringement,Legal battles for patent infringement continue with the latest lawsuit slapped against HTC by Apple on behalf of the iPhone.
Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware.
The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
“HTC values patent rights and their enforcement but is also committed to defending its own technology innovations,” and HTC spokeswoman said in a statement. “HTC only learned of Apple’s actions this morning via media reports, and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to investigate the filings. Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC.”
This is one of many lawsuits between smartphone makers, making a big legal tangle of who designed and patented what technology first.(wireless mobile news)

Owners of the Windows Mobile 6.x phones will not be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 7.
Microsoft will continue to support Windows Mobile 6.x and call it Windows Phone Classic.
The new specs for Windows Phone 7 requires 3buttons(Home Back and Bing Search) Windows Mobile 6.x smartphones may have different buttons.
“Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable”, Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, told APCMagazine.
Microsoft will not rebrand Windows Mobile 6.x as Windows Phone Classic and offer it for budget-minded smartphone buyers as well as business customers with 6.x-based apps.

Error Blocked PlayStation 3 From Using Its Network.
A software error prevented users of some Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles worldwide from gaining access to the PlayStation Network, which offers downloads of video games and movies, the company said Monday.
Users trying to log in had received a cryptic error message. Some games could not be played even when the console was taken offline, several users in Tokyo said.
Sony said the network had been restored by late Monday in the United States, over 24 hours since the first connection problems were reported.
On Monday night, Sony said the failure had been caused by a flaw in the system’s clock, and warned users not to turn on their consoles until a fix was found.
The error appeared as the date changed from Feb. 28 to March 1. The problem appeared to cause the date on the consoles to reset to Jan. 1, 2000.
“The bug caused the clocks inside the PlayStation 3s to think that the date, February 29, 2010, existed when it didn’t,” said Makiko Noda, a spokeswoman at Sony Computer Entertainment, the company’s gaming arm. “The problem was resolved naturally when the date changed to March 1 GMT,” she said.
Sony said newer, slimmer versions of the PlayStation 3, which went on sale in September 2009, appeared to have been unaffected by the problem.
The PlayStation Network is central to Sony’s strategy to better integrate its gadgets with online content and services.
Howard Stringer, the chief executive, has said that Sony hopes to build on the PlayStation Network to offer content like games, movies, music, applications and digital books on Sony gadgets.
The network, he said, will not just set it apart from gaming rivals like Microsoft and Nintendo, it will also help Sony catch up with companies like Apple.

Vancouver 2010 and Marooned for iPhone!
It’s been awhile since we’ve covered new iPhone games, but we’ve got two great new games for you to check out. Vancouver 2010is the official mobile game of the 2010 Olympics! Fancy, right? Marooned was a big hit for PC and Mac at Gamehouse.com last year and has now been ported to the iPhone.
Vancouver 2010 is your chance (and let’s face it, probably your best chance) to compete in the Vancouver Olympics! You can compete in cross country skiing, boarder cross, freestyle moguls and more. In Vancouver 2010, you tap the screen in certain rhythms to navigate through various events and attain your goal. Some events also make use of the accelerometer- like steering through boardercross. I thought I would rock this game as I’m a pretty athletic person. But, wow-was I humbled. Apparently athletic ability does not translate directly to gaming ability, because I got destroyed by the game. The boarder cross- which is probably the only Olympic event I’d ever want to contest- was super difficult for me. It’s a matter of the right touch, which I either don’t have or haven’t yet perfected. However, I’m seeing slow improvement the more I play, and predict total domination within two weeks. Despite constantly losing, it’s really fun to select your character and country then try to beat out all the opposing countries and characters in the game. Like other Playman games you’re able to pick your character and your country. One tip: this game works best if you’re in airplane mode. I found that sometimes the incoming data would slow the reaction time down and I’d screw up (I’m sure it was the data and not me. Right?).

Marooned is a totally different style of game. It’s a bit hidden object and a bit puzzle. It is the story of a shipwrecked?/abandoned?/kidnapped? scientist who wakes up alone on, you guessed it, an island. There are several different zones where you can travel to find clues as to how you (the scientist) ended up on the island and what you’re doing there in the first place. The game is mostly a hidden object game but it varies in how you find things. For instance, some times all that’s required is to find a small list of objects. Other times you’ll have to find 20 frogs, or flashlights etc. It’s a fun game, and it is crazy addictive. I’d recommend saving this one for a long flight. It’s a great way to kill a few hours.

Google has released -Google Earth for Android. They claim its is theri fastest mobile version of Google Earth yet, with a smooth framerate and a b 800 x 480 screen. The app only works on Android 2.1 smartphones and on the Nexus One superphone.
Google Earth for Android has a new Roads layer, that drwas road labels drawn on top of the satellite imagery. They have also have included voice recognition. If you search for a location with request, such as “romantic getaway, Lake Tahoe” and you will see a map with balloons for the hotel locations.
With Google Earth for Android you can also browse photos, places, and local businesses, whether it is in your local community or on the far side of the globe. Click on an icon to see photos, videos, and read about prominent places in the world. You can easily customize your version of Google Earth to display the layers that most interest you.
Google Earth for Android will be available in Android Market on most devices that have Android 2.1 or later versions. So as devices such as Droid get updated to Android 2.1, others will also be able to fly to the far reaches of the globe with a swipe of their finger.
